I talk a lot about “Loving my Neighbor.” This ideal is what drives me in life every day and in the realm of NF advocacy.
All of us need community, and as much as I want to be a strong, independent person, and do things on my own, I know I need a community.
Loving my neighbor is as much receiving as it is giving and finding those relationships that give life has become really vital to me in this stage of my life.
I am thankful for friends who also live with NF (NF1, NF2, and SWN) who truly understand the confusion, chaos, challenges, and pain that come with NF. Having people who get your dark humor, encourage you to push through AND to rest, who offer empathy and not pity, and who model strength and fortitude carries me through hard days.
Maybe you don’t live with NF, but what is your neighborhood, who are your people?
What slice of the world are you a part of and working to make better? Who are the people you can count on the support you and who can trust you to do the same?
If you don’t have a community like this, I encourage you to be intentional about creating one!
